Duties:

Work is semi–skilled manual labor in the maintenance of toll plazas along the Turnpike. Work involves responsibility for safe and efficient operation of all equipment used in the Toll Custodial Department. Work assignments are detailed and subject to review by supervisors. Examples of work include basic cleaning of tollbooths and offices; trash removal; pick up and delivery of supplies; debris and snow removal from lanes and walks; minor repair and maintenance.

Job Requirements:

  1. Must have and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
  2. Must have, maintain, and publish a valid telephone number.
  3. Must be 18 years of age or older.

Job Demands: The following are minimum demands necessary for this job:

  1. Ability to safely lift from floor and carry 70 pounds.
  2. Ability to safely lift repeatedly 30 pounds from floor to overhead.
  1. Must obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License, issued by the State of Kansas.
  2. Must have the ability to operate light equipment such as mowers, trimmers, brooms, shovels, and other hand tools.
  3. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, year–round, daytime and nighttime, in sometimes harsh environments.
  4. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, and stand for prolonged periods of time as necessary, and must be able to climb and/or work at heights.
  5. Must be able to work in closed spaces.
  6. Must be able to work effectively with other workers.
  7. Must be able and willing to work safely with all tools and equipment.
  8. Must be able and willing to work with and help customers in a pleasant manner.
  9. Must be able to understand and carry out oral instructions and to reasonably communicate with all supervisors and the traveling public.

Education Requirements and Experience That are Advantageous:

  1. Mechanical and operational knowledge of motorized equipment.
  2. Must be a graduate of an accredited high school or equivalent.
  1. Past experience with mechanized equipment or tools.
  1. Maintenance of a good work record.
